  • Elementary Science - Abstract: All students should be receiving daily instruction in science. The skills that all students need for success in the Mathematics and English portions of the FCAT are the skills that are the foundation of literacy. Science is the one curriculum that practices every skill of the standards for Mathematics and English.
  • Science Certification - Abstract: The Florida Association of Science Teachers cannot support a generic certification. It is our position that a deep knowledge of the subject area and appropriate professional development are the pillars on which excellent science teaching rest. Standard-based science instruction is the right approach.
  • Eisenhower Funds - Abstract: Eisenhower funds were born of the need to broaden the frontiers of science through effective, current science instruction. Throughout the years, these funds have helped serve the needs of science education, but are now being diverted to other areas. It is our position that these funds must be refocused on science education.
  • Science Leaders - Abstract: It is the position of the Florida Association of Science Teachers that district level leaders provide sustained and continuous support for standards, assessment, and curriculum implementation. Specialist leadership at the district level is necessary to sustain excellence in science education.
