Elementary Science - Abstract: All students should be receiving daily instruction in science. The skills that all students need for success
in the Mathematics and English portions of the FCAT are the skills that are the
foundation of literacy. Science is the one curriculum that practices every skill
of the standards for Mathematics and English.

Science Certification - Abstract: The Florida Association
of Science Teachers cannot support a generic certification. It is our position that
a deep knowledge of the subject area and appropriate professional development are
the pillars on which excellent science teaching rest. Standard-based science instruction
is the right approach.

Eisenhower Funds - Abstract: Eisenhower funds were born
of the need to broaden the frontiers of science through effective, current science
instruction. Throughout the years, these funds have helped serve the needs of science
education, but are now being diverted to other areas. It is our position that these
funds must be refocused on science education.

Science Leaders - Abstract: It is the position of the
Florida Association of Science Teachers that district level leaders provide sustained
and continuous support for standards, assessment, and curriculum implementation.
Specialist leadership at the district level is necessary to sustain excellence in
science education.
